ASPEN/SNOWMASS VILLAGE, Colo. (March 30) - Olympic
snowboarder Chris
Klug and a team of world-class riders and coaches
are gearing up to host
the Burton-Klug Freeride and Race Camp April 9-14
in Aspen.
For the first time ever, the camp will be held on
Aspen Mountain and
will coincide with Aspen's first-ever 180 Spring
Jam and the inaugural
opening of Aspen Mountain to snowboarding.
The spring camp will offer the chance to improve
all types of riding -
freeride, halfpipe, snowboardcross and racing. The
camp is open to all
ages, all abilities and both softbooters and
hardbooters. It will be
limited to the first 100 entrants.
The three and five-day camps will include on-snow
freeride and gate
training, video analysis, Burton demo equipment, a
Saturday race,
parties and awards.
"I'm excited about doing the camp, we're
going to have a lot of fun,"
said Klug. "It is an all inclusive camp
designed for any rider that
wants to become a better boarder and have a great
time in Aspen."
A veteran in the sport of snowboarding, Klug had
some impressive results
this season. The '98 Olympian and Aspen local was
recently named the
U.S. champion in parallel giant slalom, which will
be a featured
discipline at the '02 Olympics in Utah. Klug
podiumed four times on the
FIS World Cup tour, which included a giant slalom
win in Italy. Last
season, Klug won the super G at the Goodwill Games
and was crowned the
overall alpine champion of the Chevy Truck U.S.
Snowboard Grand Prix
tour.
As if Klug's credentials weren't enough, the camp
staff will also
include accomplished riders like Gretchen Bleiler
(U.S. Snowboard Team
halfpipe rider), Rosey Fletcher ('98 Olympian, '01
U.S. slalom and
parallel giant slalom champion), Travis McClain
('00 X Games ultracross
champion) and Ian Price ('00 Goodwill Games
champion). Aspen Valley Ski
Club coach Ben Hall will also be on the
instructor's roster.
Klug is stoked to host the camp on Aspen Mountain
for the first time.
Aspen will open its doors and killer terrain to
snowboarders for the
first time in history just prior to the camp, so
the Burton-Klug dates
will be the first major snowboard events ever at
Aspen.
"The fact that we are the first to be doing
it on Aspen is pretty cool,"
said Klug. "We've got a world-class
team of coaches put together to
help campers improve their pipe riding,
snowboardcross skills,
freeriding, and racing. See you there!"
Surrounding the Burton-Klug Camp, the 180 Aspen
Spring Jam is the
ultimate spring skiing and snowboarding festival.
A collection of events
and live music will be held at Aspen and Snowmass
from March 31 until
April 15. Each day will feature ski and snowboard
competitions, a
Festival Demo Village and the 180 Outdoor Concert
Series, presenting
high-energy hip-hop bands and DJs performing on
stage each day at the
mountain's base.
The five-day session is $600 while the three-day
camp is $400. Discount
lodging is available in the Aspen area. For more
