SKI AND SNOWBOARD ATHLETES COUNTDOWN 200 DAYS TO SALT LAKE CITY GAMES

PARK CITY, Utah (July 23) -- Monday's calendar says it's 200 days until
the 2002 Olympic. U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team athletes say it's another
training day as they get set for first Winter Games of the 21st Century.

As the Salt Lake Organizing Committee ticks off another days-away
milestone, U.S. athletes -- most of them hoping to earn their own spot
at the Olympics next Feb. 8-24 in Utah -- are spread from Alaska to
Chile. And the skiers or snowboard riders who aren't taking part in a
preseason camp have just returned from a camp or are about to leave for
another one.

A quick look at who's where:

Alpine men -- The men just completed a dryland camp in San Clemente,
Calif., which featured strength and coordination workouts plus
conditioning drills in their brutal, annual Oceanman water-rescue
competition. The men went to San Clemente directly from a five-day
on-snow camp at Mount Hood, Ore. Next month, the slalom and giant slalom
are scheduled to train for 2-1/2 weeks in New Zealand while the downhill
and super G racers will be in Chile for two weeks.

Alpine women -- The women are in the midst of  their own dryland camp
at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista following an early-July
on-snow training camp at Mount Hood. In August, the women's speed group
(DH/SG) will train in Chile for nearly two weeks and the gate-runners
are scheduled to be in Norway for the same amount of time.

Cross country -- The Ski Team will continue to train on Alaska's Eagle
Glacier, outside Anchorage, until Wednesday and return next month for
another 10-day session at the glacier.

Freestyle -- The men and women on the moguls team are in Chile for a
10-day camp. The aerials team, which completed a three-week water ramp
camp (jumping into a splash pool) July 16 at Utah Olympic Park outside
Park City, saw the World Cup season-opening events at Australia's Mount
Buller Ski Area outside Melbourne postponed for a month because of poor
snow. So, the World Cup aerialists, will have a couple days off before
starting another water ramp cap in early August at the Utah Olympic
Park.

Jumping -- After a two-week training camp in Finland, the jumpers
completed a 10-day water ramp camp at Utah Olympic Park, too. They will
hold another five-day camp starting Wednesday at the facility, which
will be the Olympic jumping venue in February, and then return to Europe
July 30 for additional training.

Nordic combined -- The combined skiers recently returned from a
two-week camp in Norway which blended jumping and cross country
training. While some members of the Ski Team are training on the Eagle
Glacier in Alaska this week, two others are working on their jump
training at Utah Olympic Park. On the 28th, the entire team will start
another week-long camp at Utah Olympic Park.

Snowboard -- Following a week of gymnastics and coordination training
last week at Woodward's renowned gymnastics camp in Pennsylvania, the
riders are now in the halfpipe at Mount Hood, Ore., joining the parallel
GS alpine team which has been there since last week. Next month, the
alpine riders will head to South America for two weeks of additional
riding.
