WORLD CUP SNOWBOARDCROSS WHISTLER, British
Columbia (Dec. 8) - In the second snowboardcross
of the World Cup season,
Sweden's Pontus Stahlkloo and German Sandra Farmand took victories. Stahlkloo has had an
impressive start to the season as he finished second at the season's
opening snowboardcross in Tignes, France. Last season's SBX champion,
Stahlkloo entered Friday's event in 10th place
on the World Cup overall
points list. Canadian Jasey Jay
Anderson, also a solid alpine snowboard racer,
was second. Sven Unger of
Germany was third and Felix Stadler from Austria finished fourth. Adam N.
Smith (Bend, OR) was the highest finishing American in 14th. Farmand, also second in
Tignes, was followed by Austrian Ursula Fingerlos. Marie Laissus
of France was third and Italian Carmen Ranigler was fourth. U.S. Snowboard Team
rider Sondra Van Ert (Ketchum, ID), a '98
Olympian, was the top American
finisher in 11th. Teammate Lynn Ott (Bend, OR)
was 16th. The Whistler World Cup
continues Saturday and Sunday with halfpipe events and concludes
